Abstrak

Mastery of foreign languages, especially Arabic and English, is essential in modern Islamic boarding school education. Language is a means of communication and a window for students to understand classical Islamic literature and global knowledge. The Darun-Na'im YAPIA (DNY) Modern Islamic Boarding School, Parung Bogor, organizes the Grammar School extracurricular program as a systematic effort to improve the quality of students' language skills. This study aims to determine the urgency of Grammar School activities to enhance students' language skills and to describe the form of its implementation empirically. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature approach and field studies. Data collection techniques include interviews with tutors and students, direct observation of Grammar School activities, and curriculum documentation and program evaluation. The study was located in the DNY Modern Islamic Boarding School environment, Parung, Bogor. The study results indicate that Grammar School is vital in forming students' basic competencies in understanding grammatical structures (grammar and nahwu). This program is carried out routinely in the afternoon with contextual and communicative teaching methods, and is supervised by experienced tutors. Grammar School has also improved language test scores and students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. In conclusion, grammar school activities are urgent and serve as a foundation for strengthening students' language skills comprehensively and sustainably, as well as supporting the creation of an active language environment in Islamic boarding schools.
